Abstract
Aim: Extract astaxanthin from shrimp shell (Metapenaeus dobsoni), confirm via TLC/FTIR/UV, incorporate into a tropical sunscreen lotion and evaluate physicochemical properties. Results: Samples rich in antioxidant property and exhibited UV-absorbing capacity supporting astaxanthin as a natural UV protective agent. Conclusion: Astaxanthin from shrimp shell is a promising natural sunscreen ingredient and value-added use of seafood waste.
